Kodansha Noma Museum of Art was opened in
April 2000
to commemorate Kodansha's 90th anniversary.
The museum is currently closed as it is being rebuilt.

「野間コレクション」は、講談社創業以来、講談社と創業家である野間家の周辺に集まってきた美術品や文化財を指します。
近代日本画を中心とする美術コレクションは、初代社長の野間清治が講談社発行の雑誌のために大量の画稿を必要としていたことを端緒とし、その後、横山大観、川合玉堂、竹内栖鳳といった当時の日本を代表する画家たちと交流を深め、彼らの作品を幅広く収集しました。
また、明治時代から今に至るまでに蓄積されてきた貴重な文化遺産ともいえる出版文化資料や、『小説現代』の表紙絵を長年にわたって描いた村上豊の作品なども所蔵しています。
この多彩なコレクションは、長い年月を経て多くの人々に鑑賞され、そして現在も愛され続けています。

The Noma Collection features works of art and cultural properties that were collected around the home of Seiji NOMA, the founder and first president of Kodansha, and his family in the years after Kodansha was founded. Consisting primarily of modern Nihonga paintings, the collection began due to Mr. Noma's need for many illustrations in the magazines Kodansha published. Mr. Noma eventually formed close ties with some of Japan's top artists of the era, including Taikan YOKOYAMA, Gyokudo KAWAI, and Seiho TAKEUCHI, and collected a variety of their works. The collection also contains valuable cultural publications dating from the Meiji period (1868-1912) to the present day and works by Yutaka MURAKAMI, who illustrated the covers of the monthly literary magazine Shosetsu Gendai for many years. The diverse collection has been viewed by many people over the years and is still cherished today.

In addition to works by modern Nihonga painters, this collection features media such as modern Western paintings, sculptures, ceramics and a vast collection of shikishi, a Japanese medium featuring square drawing paper. The collection is a microcosm of Japan's art scene in the modern era.

出版文化資料

Cultural publications

戦前の雑誌に掲載された表紙絵、口絵、挿絵、絵本の原画などを中心とし、当時の付録やポスターなど、出版社ならではの多彩なコレクションがあります。

This collection centers on features such as cover illustrations, frontispieces, and inserts of prewar magazines, along with the original illustrations for picture books. Other items from the era include magazine supplements and posters, rounding out a collection that only a publisher could amass.

講談社とゆかりが深く、墨彩画、挿絵、書籍の装幀、絵本の原画など多方面で活動した画家、村上豊の作品群を所蔵しています。

Kodansha had close ties with Yutaka MURAKAMI, whose work spanned a wide range of media including ink painting, book inserts and bindings, and the original illustrations for picture books. This collection contains a variety of his works.
